MANDATES and FUNCTIONS

The Bureau of Fire Protection was created by virtue of RA 6975 primarily to perform the following functions:

Be responsible for the prevention and suppression of all destructive fires on:

Building, houses and other structures
Forest
Land transportation vehicles and equipment
Ships and vessels docked at piers or wharves anchored in major sea ports
Petroleum industry installations
Plane crashes
Other similar activities

Be responsible for the enforcement of the Fire Code of the Philippines (PD 1185) and other related laws
Shall have the power to investigate all causes of fires and if necessary, file the proper complaint with the city or provincial prosecutor who has jurisdiction over the case
In the time of national emergency, all elements of the BFP shall upon direction of the President, assist the AFP in meeting the national emergency
Shall establish at least one (1) fire station with adequate personnel, firefighting facilities and equipment in every provincial capital, city and municipality subject to standard rules and regulations as maybe promulgated by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) (Sec 56).

Emergency Medical Services

Give sick or injured individuals treatment, such as first aid or life support. Prepare patients for the emergency room of a hospital or other healthcare facility and transfer them there securely.

Fire Drill and Seminar combines elements of both a traditional seminar or training session and a fire drill to provide education and practical training on fire safety and emergency response procedures.

Special Rescue Unit

The Special Rescue Unit of the BFP is composed of highly trained firefighters who are equipped and skilled in conducting specialized rescue operations. Their primary role is to respond to incidents that require technical rescue skills beyond the scope of regular firefighting operations.

Fire Safety Inspection Certificate ( Business and Occupancy )

Fire Safety Inspection Certificate is a pre-requisite prior to the issuance of Business Permit and Occupancy Permit It signifies that the owner complied with the standard requirements recommended by the Fire Safety Inspection.

Fire Safety Evaluation Clearance

A document issued by the BFP as a prerequisite for the grant of Building Permit by the Office of Building Official having jurisdiction upon determination that the evaluated plans are compliant with Republic Act 9514 and its Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations.

Intelligence Investigation Services

When a fire is suspected to be the result of arson, the BFP may initiate an investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire. BFP personnel, particularly those trained in fire investigation, are tasked with gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing the scene to establish whether the fire was intentionally set.
